Customer Dress Rental Agreement
Version 2026-09-24
These terms apply to each dress or garment rental made through One Night Only. Booking-specific details such as the garment, price, security deposit, collection date, return date and replacement value are displayed during checkout and/or in the booking confirmation and form part of this Agreement.
1. The Rental
One Night Only grants the Customer temporary possession and use of the booked garment for the confirmed rental period. Ownership remains with the garment owner at all times.
The standard booking is a weekend booking. The garment will be available for collection in the Centurion area, or delivered by courier, by Friday. It must be returned on Sunday where a self-return has been arranged, or securely repacked in its original packaging and ready for courier collection/return on Monday, unless the booking confirmation states otherwise.
A week booking may also be selected. For One Night Only, a week booking is approximately 4 calendar days, typically with collection or delivery on Monday and return on Thursday, unless the booking confirmation states otherwise. A standard 4-day week booking is charged at the standard rental fee.
Subject to availability, approved extra rental days may be added at 15% of the standard weekend rental fee per additional calendar day, subject to a minimum charge of R100 per extra day. If three or more additional days are required, One Night Only may apply the week-booking rate where that rate is lower. Any extension must be approved and paid for before the existing return deadline.
The exact collection/delivery date, return date and required return time shown in the booking confirmation take precedence over the typical periods above.
2. Booking, Payment and Release of the Garment
A booking is confirmed only once the required payment has been received and One Night Only has issued confirmation.
The full outstanding rental amount and refundable security deposit must be paid before the garment is released.
One Night Only may refuse release where payment, required identification or other booking requirements remain outstanding.
3. Collection and Return
The Customer must receive and return the garment on the dates and within the times stated in the booking confirmation. Self-collection and self-return are available only for bookings in the Centurion area and must be arranged with One Night Only. For bookings outside the Centurion area, delivery and return will be arranged through The Courier Guy in accordance with the booking instructions.
The Customer must follow all collection, delivery and return instructions supplied by One Night Only and, where courier delivery applies, must make the garment available to The Courier Guy at the agreed time and address.
Where a courier return applies, the Customer must have the garment correctly packed and available for collection on the agreed date. A delay caused solely by the courier after the Customer has complied with the return instructions will not, by itself, be treated as a late return by the Customer.
The garment, together with all accessories supplied with it, must be returned in the original packaging provided by One Night Only. The Customer is responsible for packing the garment securely and in accordance with any return instructions provided.
4. Garment Condition
The garment condition may be recorded by One Night Only using a Garment Handover & Condition Report, photographs and/or video.
The Customer must inspect the garment at collection. Any condition that materially differs from the recorded condition must be brought to One Night Only's attention before the Customer leaves with the garment.
If the Customer collects the garment without reporting a material discrepancy, the garment will be regarded as having been received in the recorded outgoing condition, subject to the Customer's rights under applicable law.
Reasonable ordinary wear from proper use will not automatically be treated as damage.
5. Fit and Suitability
The Customer is encouraged to fit the garment before confirming the rental where fitting is available.
The Customer is responsible for selecting an appropriate garment and size.
A change of mind or fit issue discovered after collection does not automatically create a right to a refund, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
If the supplied garment materially differs from the garment booked, the Customer must notify One Night Only as soon as reasonably possible.
6. Care of the Garment
The Customer must take reasonable care of the garment and may not, without written permission from One Night Only:
- wash, dry-clean, bleach or chemically treat the garment;
- cut, shorten, permanently alter, dye or modify the garment, except for an alteration expressly arranged in accordance with the alteration clause below;
- attempt repairs;
- remove labels, sewn-in components or accessories;
- sub-rent, lend or transfer the garment to another person; or
- use styling methods that are reasonably likely to puncture, stain or permanently alter the garment.
Cleaning after return is arranged by One Night Only.
Where an alteration is reasonably possible, it may be arranged only through the alteration provider nominated or provided by One Night Only. Any approved alteration is for the Customer's account and will be charged as an additional cost. No alteration may be carried out by the Customer or by any other tailor, seamstress or third party without One Night Only's prior written approval.
7. Stains, Damage and Special Cleaning
The Customer must disclose any stain, tear, breakage or other damage when returning the garment.
Where additional cleaning or repair is reasonably required because of damage or abnormal staining that occurred while the garment was in the Customer's possession, One Night Only may deduct the reasonable actual cost from the security deposit.
Examples may include excessive staining, make-up or fake-tan staining, food or beverage stains, broken zips, torn fabric, damaged straps, damaged beading or sequins, burns, holes, significant pulls or snags, missing accessories, or unauthorised alterations.
No deduction will be made merely for reasonable ordinary wear. Where practical, One Night Only will provide an explanation of the deduction and supporting evidence of the damage or cost.
8. Security Deposit
The security deposit is held as security for the Customer's obligations and is not part of the rental fee.
After return and inspection, the balance of the deposit will normally be refunded within 5 business days, provided no unresolved damage, loss, late-return or specialist-cleaning issue remains.
Reasonable amounts properly due for damage, specialist cleaning, missing items, late return, loss or other direct amounts due under this Agreement may be deducted.
The entire deposit will not automatically be forfeited merely because damage occurred. Any deduction must relate reasonably to the actual loss or cost incurred.
If the amount properly due exceeds the deposit, the Customer remains responsible for the reasonable outstanding amount, subject to applicable law.
9. Loss, Theft or Irreparable Damage
The Customer must take reasonable precautions to protect the garment and must inform One Night Only immediately if it is lost, stolen or seriously damaged.
Where the garment is lost, stolen while in the Customer's care, or damaged beyond economical repair due to circumstances for which the Customer is legally responsible, the Customer may be liable for its reasonable replacement value.
The replacement value disclosed during checkout or in the booking confirmation is the agreed reference value for that rental. Any deposit retained in respect of the same loss will be credited against the amount properly owing.
10. Late Returns
An approved and paid extension under clause 1 is not a late return. If the Customer requires additional time, the extension must be requested before the existing return deadline and remains subject to garment availability.
If the garment is not returned by the confirmed deadline and no extension has been approved, a reasonable late-return charge disclosed in the booking terms may apply for each 24-hour period or part thereof that the garment remains overdue.
Where a late return directly causes the cancellation of another confirmed rental, One Night Only reserves its rights in respect of reasonable direct loss actually suffered, to the extent permitted by law.
The Customer should contact One Night Only immediately if circumstances may prevent an on-time return.
11. Cancellations
The Customer may cancel an advance booking.
One Night Only may charge a reasonable cancellation fee having regard to the amount of notice, proximity to the rental date, nature of the booking, whether the garment could reasonably be re-rented, and costs already reasonably incurred.
The applicable cancellation terms and any charge will be disclosed as part of the booking process.
Nothing in this Agreement removes any cancellation or cooling-off right that applies under South African law.
12. Unavailability of a Garment
If the booked garment becomes materially damaged, lost, unreturned by a previous customer or otherwise unavailable, One Night Only will communicate with the Customer as soon as reasonably possible.
Where appropriate, the Customer may be offered a suitable alternative garment or a refund of amounts paid for the unavailable rental. The Customer is not required to accept a materially different replacement.
13. Personal Information
One Night Only may process personal information reasonably necessary to identify the Customer, administer the booking and payment, communicate about the rental, manage deposits and returns, prevent or investigate loss or fraud, retain legally required records and enforce this Agreement.
Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable South African privacy law. Marketing consent is separate and is not a condition of renting a garment.
14. Important Customer Acknowledgement
The Customer acknowledges that rental garments may have significant replacement values and that reasonable costs may become payable for loss or damage occurring while the garment is in the Customer's possession where the Customer is legally responsible.
Before checkout, the Customer should review the rental fee, security deposit, return deadline, replacement value, cancellation terms and applicable late-return charge shown for the booking.
15. General
This Agreement, the booking confirmation, checkout details and relevant Condition Report together constitute the rental agreement for the booking.
Any variation should be recorded in writing or electronically.
If a provision is invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
Nothing in this Agreement limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Consumer Protection Act or other applicable South African law.
South African law applies to this Agreement.
